Accessibility


Access to Darling Harbour is mostly level from surrounding streets. Lifts at both ends of Pyrmont Bridge link the city with Ultimo.

The lift adjacent to Imax links Darling Harbour with Druitt Street, with further lifts at Darling Walk linking with Bathurst Street and at the Convention Centre/Exhibition Halls to link with Ultimo.

The wheelchair accessible bus route 443, operates between Bridge Street, Circular Quay and Pyrmont, making several stops around the edge of Darling Harbour.

The ferry wharves at Circular Quay and Darling Harbour are both fully accessible.

All the Monorail stations have lift access with three stations situated across the precinct.  It is very easy to get both on an off the Monorail with flat platform access and cabins provide space for prams and wheelchairs.

All Light Rail stations have either ramp or lift access with two stations situated in the precinct.

Car parks within the Darling Harbour precinct have accessible parking spaces and level access to the street.

Australian National Maritime Museum
There is lift or ramp access to all exhibition spaces within the main museum building, and to the wharves and viewing platform outside the museum but limited access onto vessels.

Wheelchairs are available on request, with a deposit and photo ID required. To pre-book a wheelchair, or for further information, call (02) 9298 3777.

Audio-induction loops are available in the ANZ Theatre and museum meeting rooms. Interactive audio displays are located throughout the museum.

A series of AUSLAN sign language interpreted guided tours of the museum’s attractions including its sub-marine, destroyer and tall ship are running throughout 2007. Cost is approximately $8 per person.

Carers are given free entry to board the vessels. Please present your carers' card when purchasing tickets at the museum.

IMAX Theatre
Level access to the IMAX theatre is from the eastern side (the side nearest the City) with access signs showing direction to the lift.

Level access, wheelchair spaces or transfer seats can be organised when purchasing tickets at the box office. Staff can assist with entry to the theatre.

There are numerous car parks within the precinct. The closest passenger drop-off point is on Harbour Street.

Accessible toilets are situated nearby at the Sydney Visitor Centre.

Chinese Garden of Friendship
Only the lower areas of the Garden are easily accessible to wheelchairs. These lower areas include the tea gardens and pavilions.

There are accessible toilets nearby under the Liverpool Street bridge connection.

The closest passenger drop-off point is on Harbour Street.

Powerhouse Museum
All the main levels of the museum are accessible via ramps and a lift. For visitors using manual wheelchairs, the lift is recommended.

Wheelchairs can be borrowed at no charge from the cloaking desk in the main entrance foyer.

Induction loops are fitted in the theatres and cinema. Visitors with hearing aids should use their ‘T’ switch to pick up good, clear sound.

The FM tour guide system can be booked for visitors with a hearing impairment who wish to take a guided tour. The system lets you hear the guide without the need for lip-reading.

Accessible toilets are provided in each of the toilet blocks on levels 1, 2 and 4 and in the Grace Bros Courtyard.

The museum offers free audio-described touch tours for blind and patrons with visual impairments. These tours allow access to many objects not on open display. Bookings must be made in advance to guarantee that facilities are available. Telephone (02) 9217 0222 or fax (02) 9217 0441.

Groups of visitors with more than one person using a wheelchair can request supervised access to an additional lift by booking in advance on (02) 9217 0222.

Discounted parking is available for Powerhouse visitors at the Entertainment Car Park. Tickets must be validated at the admissions counter of the museum.

A walkway (mostly covered) joins the Entertainment Car Park levels 3A and 3B and the Powerhouse Museum Monorail Station to the Powerhouse entry forecourt.  There are no stairs, but the walk is quite steep and long.

Sydney Aquarium
The Aquarium has level access through its main entry with all facilities accessible to wheelchairs.

Sydney Entertainment Centre
There is level access into the Entertainment Centre from Harbour Street and two lifts access the upper and lower levels of the building.

There is wheelchair and level access to the seating area on the upper level through Door 11. The wheelchair seating has good sight-lines on the upper level (between first and second tier - the last row of the first elevation can be taken out).

Seats with an induction hearing loop system are located in sections 9–11.

Accessible toilets are located on the upper and lower levels of the centre.

The Entertainment Car Park has a number of accessible parking spaces (entry off Darling Drive). The taxi rank is located on Harbour Street, near Hay Street.

The closest drop-off point is at Harbour Street.

Sydney Visitor Centre
Sydney Visitor Centre at Darling Harbour situated between IMAX and the Chinese Garden of Friendship has level access entry.

Sydney Visitor Centres (there is a second centre in The Rocks) offer one-stop-shop convenience for visitor information, and can provide comprehensive details on accessible tours, accommodation and entertainment, in and around Sydney at the time of your visit.

Sydney Wildlife World
Sydney wildlife World is fully accessible with ramp and lift access to all habitat exhibits.
